Educational Endowment is a Pillar of Sustainability and a Key Driver for Funding Academic Institutions in the Islamic World

Secretary-General of the Commission of Fatwa and Islamic Affairs, participated in the 2nd International Conference on the Arab Day for Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development for Arab Universities, held on Thursday, 4 December 2025, under the theme:
“Charitable Endowment for Sustainable Education.”

In his address, Dr. Faid emphasized that endowment (waqf) is one of the greatest forms of ongoing charity encouraged in Islam, noting that it has historically served as a cornerstone for the rise and prosperity of schools, universities, and scientific institutions throughout Islamic civilization.

He highlighted the urgent need to develop practical and effective mechanisms for educational endowments today, especially amid global economic challenges, stressing that waqf provides stable and sustainable financial resources that ensure the continuity and advancement of educational processes.

Dr. Faid also pointed out that the conference, hosted by the League of Arab States (Bayt Al-Arab), aims to promote the culture of educational endowment both regionally and internationally, in Arabic-speaking countries and beyond.

Organized by the Arab Council for Social Responsibility, in cooperation with the Arab Universities Knowledge Network, the conference brings together leading experts, academics, and researchers to discuss and exchange views on strengthening the role of educational waqf in supporting sustainable development priorities in the field of education.

The event also witnessed the honouring of distinguished Arab figures who have contributed significantly to knowledge, development, and community advancement.
